About Almo Photgraphy

Hi, I’m Susan Tait, the woman behind the camera at AlMo Photography.

I’ve always had an interest in photography, but the real passion started when my partner bought me my first DSLR as a Christmas present in 2017. I remember thinking wow this is amazing, but what on earth do all these buttons and dials do… I ended up spending that Christmas day looking at various YouTube channels to find out how to work my camera and that was it, hook, line, and sinker!

I wanted to find out more about how to create art from my photographs.  Although a lot of what I have learned has been self-taught I have also spent a lot of time doing various courses and spending time with various photographers to improve and advance my skills.  Once I was comfortable with my photography skills I joined a camera club which introduced me to Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, (2 editing tools) that I love to use to enhance my images, meaning if you have a pet who needs to be on a leash, this is no problem as we can edit out details that we don’t want in the final image.

My passion for photography grew quickly and I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to share my enjoyment with others and help capture and create beautiful images. This is when AlMo Photography began.

There is a lot of meaning behind the name AlMo Photography.

When I decided I wanted to turn my passion into a business, the name also had to mean as much to me as what my photography meant to me.  And after months of thinking of the perfect name, I decided on AlMo.

The name Almo came from 2 names, Alan and Molly.  When I first started taking my photography more seriously, people asked what kind of images I would take, and at the time I wasn’t sure, as my Dad, who was not just my hero, but many people’s hero (he spent his career within the fire service) was a keen photographer and had built his own darkroom in the loft of our house. His photographs were mainly landscape, so to me this was what I thought I would naturally progress into, but for some reason, it didn’t sit quite right. I then tried photographing still life which I thoroughly enjoy, but then Molly, my Shih Tzu, and my best friend, sat in front of me one day and I started taking photographs of her – That was it,  I loved it. That’s really how AlMo Photography came about, Al – my Dad Alan who I guess got my interest in photography going and Mo – my best friend Molly who made me realise how much I love to capture pets and their personalities.
